Castanea Township was incorporated in December of 1877. The township is located in eastern Clinton County, bordered to the north by the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and to the south by Lamar and Bald Eagle Townships. The township encompasses a total of 6 square miles with a population of 1,095 (2020 Census).

Special Voting Meeting:
The Castanea Township Supervisors will be having a Special Voting Meeting on Monday, October 20th at 5 pm at the Castanea Township Building located at 347 Nittany Road, Lock Haven, PA. The purpose of this meeting is to approve the resolution for Berkheimer to replace Keystone Central School District to collect LST & BPT taxes beginning January 1, 2026 and anything else that comes before the board.

Notices
Castanea Township Brush and Leaf Collection:
As a service to residents the Township will be picking up small bundles of yard debris for fall clean up. Tree limbs no longer than 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter. Leaves can be raked or blown into piles to curbside. NOT ON ROADWAY OR IN DITCHES. No bagged leaves will be collected between October 11th through November 22nd. After November 22nd employees will only collect bagged leaves.
Zoning Appeals Board
The Castanea Township Supervisors are accepting letters of interest to serve on the Zoning Appeals Board. Applicants can send their letter of interest to Castanea Township, 347 Nittany Road, Lock Haven, PA 17745, email secretary@castaneatownshippa.gov, or can drop off at the Township Building.
